About Us

We run a family business that specializes in making roof covers from rye straw. We established our company in 2003, which has its registered office in Poland, in the town of Brzeźnica Leśna, situated in the Lublin province. Our customers are individuals as well as open-air (heritage) museums. We have long-standing, professional and specialist experience in reconstructing traditional straw thatch roofs from the 18th and 19th century, as well as making contemporary thatch roofs.
For prospective customers, we ensure the highest quality of our specially produced thatch by supervising the entire process - from the moment of sowing rye until the finishing work on the roof. To further guarantee the quality and rigorous standards we also run a multi-hectare rye cultivation, which gives us certainty that the straw we use is of the highest kind.
Making straw thatch requires knowledge, experience and many years of dedicated practice. We meet those requirements and consequently produce healthy, solid and picturesque roof covers. We make our thatch using natural materials and traditional technology.
It is worth mentioning that straw thatch was an important element of the European landscape, going well with the traditional building material, such as wood and stone. In the 21st century more and more people have been discovering and appreciating thatch anew. The main reason is that the combination of traditional materials brings about a uniquely interesting visual effect. What is more, the buildings with thatched roofs provide optimal conditions of living for their users, maintaining a pleasant temperature and humidity. Straw thatch is also an excellent natural barrier from external noise.
Our offer includes:
• Dismantling of the old roof cover
• Work preparing the timber roof truss for thatching
• Straw thatch design
• Rye straw roof thatching
• Roof ridge making

Our company issues a guarantee for thatching orders.

Key things you should know about the thatch

  • Straw thatch is made on roofs angled at 45 degrees.
  • The structure of the timber roof truss should be solid given that straw thatch is a heavy roof cover.
  • Thatch should be well ventilated from its inner (attic) side.
  • Thatch’s stability largely depends on the building’s surrounding. It is not recommended to lay thatch on buildings situated closely to numerous trees or where the roof cover remains mostly in shade.
